Landscape Tips for September

September has arrived! Many kids are back in school and fall sports are being played. This is a great time of the year in Oregon. We tend to get some beautiful days in September, cool mornings warm afternoons and beautiful sunsets! You’ve got to love the fall in the Northwest!

If you’re running kids to football, volleyball and soccer practices while trying to maintain a full-time job we know it’s difficult to remember what you’re supposed to do with your landscape. So, here are some tips to help you out.

  • Check soil moisture levels through December
  • Divide hosta and daylilies
  • Plant fall flowers like pansies
  • Complete fall lawn seeding projects
  • Aerate lawns

Landscape Tips for August

Where has the summer gone? It’s August already. Before you know it the kids will be back in school. It’s time to start thinking about fall.

We have some of our hottest days in August, so don’t think summer is over yet!

With the busy-ness that comes with the month of August, don’t forget to take care of your landscape. If there’s a project you just can’t get to, call us. We’d be happy to help! August is the pefect time to…

  • Order fall bulbs
  • Plant late-blooming perennials, mums, or pansies
  • Look out for spider mite and aphid activity
  • Need a new lawn? The optimal time for establishing a new lawn is August through Mid-September.
  • Use mulch to protect ornamentals and garden plants from hot weather damage. If needed, provide temporary shade, especially for recent plantings.

February in Oregon…

You never know what kind of weather we’ll get in February. It could be beautiful and sunny, soggy and wet or glistening in snow! No matter what Mother Nature delivers there are some landscaping items that really should be taken care of.

Landscape Tips for February

  • Cut back ornamental grasses
  • Do dormant pruning of wood shrubs and trees
  • Check perennials planted in late summer or fall.  Push them back in the soil if they are raised
  • Prune suckers from the base of ornamental trees, roses, and shrubs
  • Tune up lawn mowers and have the blades sharpened before the rush

Landscape Tips for November

Happy Holiday Season! Just because the weather has changed and you’re not spending as much time outside doesn’t mean you can ignore your yard & watering systems. There are still things that need to be done to “button-up” before the cold weather arrives.

Here are our November Landscaping Tips:

  • Water evergreens at the end of the month to prepare for winter
  • Clean up flower beds
  • Drain and store hoses
  • Winterize sprinkler system

October Landscape Tips

October… all ready? Wow! Where has this year gone?

We are getting ready for our pumpkins to be delivered and can’t wait for all the great food, fun and get-togethers that happen between now & the end of the year. Oh, and don’t forget about our costume and pumpkin carving contest on October 15th!

Customer Appreciation Event

Saturday, August 13th marked our Second Annual Customer Appreciation Event. The weather was perfect and many of our customers enjoyed walking around our beautifully landscaped grounds including many water features.

We love this event and really enjoy showing you, our customer how much we appreciate your business and even more importantly your friendship.

Thank you to Tumbleweed Barbecue who catered this event. We chose a little different food this time and went with their South of the Border theme! The food was amazing, as usual. If you’re looking for a caterer, we highly recommend Tumbleweed Barbecue.

How to Build a Pond and Waterfall/Stream Seminar

Saturday, July 9th was our How to Build a Pond and Waterfall/Stream Seminar. It was a great seminar and all the attendees gave us positive feedback. So, we will be planning another one for next summer.

In this informational seminar, we walked people through the 20 simple steps to take in order to build your own pond. After the seminar many attendees picked up the items needed to go home and get started!

July Landscape Tips

Happy July! We hope you are having a great summer so far. While it has been a bit on the cool side it sounds like the great holiday weekend may get a little toasty. So, drink lots of water and wear plenty of sunscreen! Here are a few of landscaping tips for July.

  • Deadhead perennial blossoms to promote new growth
  • Cut back fall-blooming perennials by 1/3 to delay bloom
  • Check to make sure plantings have enough water, especially on the hottest days

May Landscaping Tips

May is a great time for planting.  We had a long winter this year and there is nothing better than to get this spring started with some splashes of color in your yard.  Hanging baskets are a great way to add color above ground level.

  • Divide perennials
  • Plant new perennials
  • Plants annuals
  • Cut back any mums that returned from last year by half
